Control & Conditioning
The Pilates technique offers a unique method of body control and conditioning – stretching and strengthening the muscles, while improving flexibility and balance. It will complement any other exercise and fitness routine that you are doing and will help to realign and balance your body, and will enable you to get the most out of your other exercise or sport. In addition, you will develop your body awareness, making you think more about your general posture and how you lift, carry, stand, sit and generally look after yourself.
Pilates requires a commitment and regular practice. You will certainly see an improvement and will feel more flexible and have a better range of movement as well as improving your muscle tone, but you will need to practice on a regular basis. You will, through the different exercises, learn your own body’s strengths and weaknesses and where you need to re balance. Pilates works to stretch and lengthen the muscles, allowing the body to become stronger and firmer without building bulk. You will also learn to focus your mind, develop coordination and balance. You will benefit from the relaxation and breathing techniques used and the hour’s class always goes extremely quickly which proves how hard you are concentrating!
The classes will offer a total body workout but if you feel you have a particular area that you want to focus on, then you may well benefit from a few one to one sessions at your home.
The classes are progressive and you learn new and more challenging exercises as the term moves on. We also work with bands, balls and hand weights to add variety and different challenges to the basic exercises. |
